COACHMAN DRY FLY STEP BY STEP

COACHMAN

The history of the Coachman fly is well documented as it was originated by the Coachman to the Queen of England. The original pattern was tied with a white duck quill wing. Tied with the deer hair wing or the Impala tail white wing, it was a perfect fly for fishing the fast pocket water that he much preferred to the quieter water on the river.

A good dusk pattern and an excellent night fly, both on river and still waters.

According to fly fishing folk lore the creator of the 'Coachman' was Tom Bosworth reputedly coachman to George 1V, William 1V and Queen Victoria .

The fly he created lives on in fly boxes all over the world as one of the most successful and reliable patterns on both sides of the atlantic.

It was created in the 1830's as a wet fly but soon proved its' effectiveness when used as a dry fly
